Valentine’s Day is often a day for love, but sometimes it can bring more emotions than just love, appreciation, or romance. Many people find Valentine’s Day is a lonely time—a time where one feels reflective or downtrodden, maybe grieved.
But no matter how you feel today, this week, this month, or even the year so far, there is a hope for you today and forever. You are loved beyond imagination by someone and you are seen and valued by someone: you are loved by God.
The God of the universe who crafted you, who loves you and decided you are so valuable and important that the world needs one of you, is always here and always cares. When nobody else is around or you feel alone, He is there. When you are down in misery or depression, He is there and cares for you and offers hope. When it feels like nobody else sees your worth, God says you are valuable, precious, and loved.
“Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”
Jesus, in Matthew 6:26
God, our Heavenly Father, cares about your problems and wants to hear about them, no matter how big & unsolvable or small & menial you think your problems are. He cares and wants to listen if you tell your problems and feelings to Him. He is a refuge from our problems.
God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.Psalm 46:1
How amazing that the one who formed the stars and earth and the seas sees you and loves you, and decided to put you on this Earth for a reason? How amazing that the one who formed the stars and the earth and the seas created someone as wonderful and beautiful as you, and that that same creator offers peace that surpasses all understanding to you?
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
Jesus, God incarnate, in John 14:27
In fact, God loves you so much that He sent His son and physical incarnation, Jesus Christ, to die on a cross then raise back to life three days later to save you and all of mankind from sin—a darkness within us all that threatens to separate us from God for eternity—so that in His son we may have eternal life, and a hope and a future and peace that surpasses understanding while we are on Earth.
“I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
Jesus, in John 10:9-10, offering eternal life, and peace & refuge on Earth.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16
“if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, ‘Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.’ For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For ‘everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ “
Romans 10:9-13
This Valentine’s Day, please remember that if you don’t have loved ones to share the day with, or if you are in despair or feel broken, that there is hope and a future, and there is someone out there who loves you beyond measure and who can give you peace and comfort and refuge. The God of the Universe loves YOU, and He offers refuge from your affliction and heartache if you cry out to Him—talk to Him and He will come. It doesn’t have to be fancy or formal—you can speak aloud or in your mind what’s on your heart and what’s on your mind and He will hear you.
You are not alone, and you are loved.
